Breach may prompt address management improvements

Address Management

A reminder of the importance of address management may be given after sensitive information belonging to Stanford Hospital & Clinics (SHC) was published online.

Data posted on the website Student of Fortune included account numbers, patient names, diagnosis codes and discharge dates relating to 20,000 individuals and was only discovered after around 11 months of being online, reports Computer World.

The hospital has stated the breach is due to an error made by contractor Multi Specialties Collection Services (MSCS) in allowing an unauthorised individual to view the information.

In a statement the SHC said: "This mishandling of private patient information was in complete contravention of the law and of the requirements of MSCS's contract with SHC and is shockingly irresponsible."

Jonathan Bamford, Head of Strategic Liaison at the Information Commissioner's Office, recently called on the National Health Service to check on the "reliability" of staff with access to personal data, the Guardian reported.  ADNFCR-794-ID-800755850-ADNFCR
