'Departmentally siloed information' a key data management challenge
Aug 31 2010, 10:38 AM
A lack of unity in the storage of information within different company departments is a key data management issue for many organisations, a new study has found.
According to a survey of almost 2,000 technology professionals conducted by Deloitte, 52 per cent of respondents named 'departmentally siloed information' and 'limited cross-functional interaction' as their key data management challenges.
John Lucker, Head of Deloitte's Advanced Analytics and Modelling practice, said he was surprised more businesses are not employing business analytics tools to help them in this area.
"Organisations have ever more depth and breadth of information readily available within their grasp and the technology and methods to extract and help synthesise the data are well proven," he stated.
Last week, Sanjay Castelino, Vice President of Product Marketing and Product Management at SolarWinds, told the Enterprise Storage Forum that IT professionals need to ask what is driving data growth at their organisation when they are conducting data management projects.
