'Check bank statements regularly' to prevent ID fraud
Mar 29 2010, 11:32 AM
Being vigilant is the key to preventing identity fraud and keeping your personal details safe, it has been suggested.
Writing for Citywire.co.uk, Victoria Bischoff said that it is vital to monitor bank statements and online account activity regularly.
"If you do not recognise a transaction or think something suspicious is going on, contact the company in question immediately," she advised.
Keeping information secure is also a must. Ms Bischoff suggested that bank statements are kept in a locked drawer and pointed out that wage slips and other important paperwork should be shredded before it is disposed of.
Other top tips include ensuring that post is re-directed following a house move and never providing personal information over the telephone.
Speaking earlier this month, US insurance provider ARAG said fraudsters are continually coming up with new ways to steal information and noted that it is vital for consumers and businesses to protect themselves.
